A long first day

As expected, sleep was short last night. I woke up around 6:00 am (midnight on the east coast), so I managed maybe 5 hours. However, it was restful enough. No problems with the rest of the trip and connections, either - landed in Zurich a bit early, found our gate for the next leg (on the other side of the airport, of course), took off on time, landed early again in Ljubljiana, found our luggage, got the rental car.

We had talked briefly the other day about going to see Lake Bled and the town there. Since it was about 30 minutes in the opposite direction of our hotel from the airport, we made a last minute decision to go there first rather than do a 3 hour round trip later. This turned out to be an okay decision. The lake is pretty, the Alps (we're are right near the Austrian Alps in this area) are still snow covered, and it definitely wasn't worth a 3 hour round trip. It was worth the 1 hour extra. The only problem is that we were both a bit to draggy to really get out and enjoy it, so I took a couple of pictures and we headed to the Hotel Kendev dvorec in Spodnja Idrija.

Cute and charming place. The scenary is very nice, here in the foothills of the mountains. Sally commented that the area and architecture feels Bavarian; I would have said Swiss, but it's all rock and roll to me.

We walked into town - Spodnja Idrija - and had some beers and pizza for lunch, in that order. As if we weren't sleepy enough. Then we drove down to the larger town, Indrija, to look around. We really didn't see much of anything, although it's supposed to be a great lace center.

We're now back at the hotel trying to stay awake until a decent hour so we will get a decent night's sleep and be good int the morning.
