Note: this post is delayed, as the Internet service in our hotel in Hvar was barely useable, and I can't find any cell service fast enough for the mobile hotspot. This is coming from the Villa Dubrovnik, which has good wifi but other issues I'll write about and post later.
Today is our last full day in Hvar, and our last full day with Beebs & The Skipper(1). And before you get worried, the weather was gorgeous today, with mostly sunny skies and mild temperatures. No, the water theme is all about today's activities.

At our scrumptious dinner last night, the Quatros Amigos agreed that we would rent a boat and go visit a few of the islands in the Pakleni Otoci, which is a small chain of mostly empty islands just off of Hvar. Beebs had been dreaming about boating on the Adriatic Sea for about 40 years, and so we all agreed this would be a splendid idea. I'm not sure what kind of boat she had in mind; perhaps a graceful sailboat? A luxurious yacht with a crew? I'm not sure, but we rented the S.S. Minnow(2).

ThePakleni Otoci is a chain of 16 low and relatively undeveloped islands a few miles off of Hvar, which stretch about 6 miles and cover less than 3 square miles. They are a popular day trip destination for visitors to Hvar, and offer limited overnight accommodations. Mostly, people go there to sit in the sun on the rocky beach, have a few drinks, and spend a day on or near the water.

Everyone we spoke to said nothing was open on the islands this early in the season, so we packed a picnic lunch: a long baguette, some cheese and yogurt, a little fruit. It turns out a few things were open, but we picnicked anyway.
Arriving at Palmisano, we managed to dock without seriously damaging anything and walked across a slim isthmus to the beach area. It was quite beautiful, and we sat on some beach chairs until we were told to pay the KU 40 or leave. But it really was nice, watching a small bay with a few boats and talking to some other visitors.

After leaving the beach, we walked back to the marina where we were docked and had our picnic lunch.

| The Skipper instructs his crew, May 2014 |
The ride back to Hvar in the S.S. Minnow seemed longer(3) and was rougher as the wind picked up. But the intrepid crew braved the elements to arrive safely back in port. After a bit of trouble parking, we summoned Grouchy who became really grouchy when he saw the Minnow banging against the stone pier in the waves while the Skipper valiantly acted as a human bumper.
We finished up our day, and the last evening of our stay in Hvar, with a fun dinner out with Beebs & Skip.
---------------
(1) Miguel will be known as Skipper for the remainder of this post. It will become clear why.
(2) Extra points for recognizing the reference.
(3) Well of course it was longer, as we worked our way out the island chain during our trip then came back in one long leg.
